Avui a la secció Musipèdia us parlem de Whitney Houston, cantautora americana de rythm and blues, pop i gòspel i també pianista i actriu. Va ser una de les cantants més populars de la dècada dels 80 i 90. Va néixer al 1963 i va morir al 2012.

Al 1985 quan va sortir el seu primer àlbum, va ser el disc de debut més venut per una dona amb 25 milions de copies. Encara a dia d’avui manté el record de set números u consecutius. Al 1990 va cantar l’himne en la Super Bowl, versió que és la primera i fins ara queda l’única certificada amb un disc de platí.

Als 90 va debutar com actriu amb la pel·lícula The Bodyguard, amb la qual va aconseguir un gran èxit i la banda sonora de la pel·lícula és la mes venuda de la història. Després va fer la pel·lícula Cinderella amb Disney.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody: Es el primer senzill de l’álbum Whitney. La cançó va ser premiada amb el premi Grammy en 1988 en la categoria millor interpretació vocal pop femenina. Es va convertir en un èxit comercial, aconseguint liderar les alistes d’almenys 13 països. Als Estets Units, va vendre un milió de còpies venudes, per la qual cosa va ser el seu major èxit en aquest país.

All The Man That I Need: Va ser publicat al desembre de 1990 i és el segon senzill de l’àlbum I’m Your Baby Tonight. El vídeoclip va ser digit er Peter Israelson (el mateix director dels videos Greatest Love of All i Where Do Broken Hearts Go) En el video es veu a Houston declarant el seu amor per un home, dient que ell és “tot l’home que necessito”. La cançó té també una certa influència gospel.
